a day near the beach in Brighton

Rocks, pebbles and pieces of shells glisten at the water’s edge as waves rhythmically lap the shore on this sunny November afternoon. Nothing can quite describe the feeling of catching sight of the sea again after having been away from it for a while. Walking down the hilly streets of Brighton, the sea, even though I was expecting it, surprised me when it peeked up beyond the last row of buildings. It seemed like an optical illusion, so blue from a distance.

The sun sets early in November. This evening it casts a warm orange light over the beach before sinking behind a wall of dark blue clouds. Returning to the city at the end of the day, I feel like I’ve been in another country – a seaside place where time moves just a little bit more slowly and the air is a sprinkle saltier.
